Air Asia Plane Crash

image001.jpg

A concerned Malaysia Uncut reader, Kay, forwarded some pictures reputedly of an Air Asia plane crash. He/She said: It would be scary if news like this (provided it is true), is suppressed by the Malaysian Government…

Further details are unavailable. The source and authenticity of the pictures could not be verified. Could someone shed some light on this? Here are more pictures of the alleged crash:

  1. The photos were doctored and faked. Air Asia does NOT have planes of this colour design

Air Asia planes are colored differently.

Click here to see the various planes owned by Air Asia

    http://www.airasia.com/site/en/page.jsp?reference=airbus%20fleet

Any air crash MUST be reported to the International Air authorities by the airline or by the Govt.

Somebody presumably working for or on behalf of MAS is trying to discredit Air Asia.

      • There are still some Boeing 737s which are still in use for shorter destinations. There are still some of them in LCCT even now.

  3. It is a relief to read that the pics are doctoredIt would be scary if it wasn’t. On the other hand, it is sad to know what people would go through to cause unrest to innocent people. I sent this set of photoes to Malaysia uncut seeking authentication and am thankful of the response I read here. Now, I have some peace of mind and confidence restored in flying Air Asia once again.

Frank, I feel it would not be right to assume this is the work of MAs to discredit AirAsia.. for all you know some cheeky youth with too much time in hand and nothing better to do, did all this, ya?

  6. 7 Nov 2004 – AirAsia 737-300 over-runs runway in heavy rain

KOTA KINABALU – AirAsia in a statement said due to heavy rain and bad weather, its aircraft bound for Kota Kinabalu from Kuala Lumpur skidded lightly off the runway after it touched down at Terminal Two of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport. In the 5.10pm incident yesterday, two passengers and the two pilots suffered minor injuries.

The 111 passengers on board AirAsia’s Boeing 737-300 flight from Kuala Lumpur had an uneventful journey till the plane landed at Kota Kinabalu. One of the injured, a five-year-old girl, sprained her left wrist during evacuation from the Boeing 737-300 aircraft, the Star reported.

The passengers, including six top Laotian government officials, were shaken by the incident that occurred during a downpour.

Flight AK104 from Kuala Lumpur skidded onto the grassy patch towards the south end of the runway, forcing passengers to be evacuated via emergency chutes as Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) fire engines and ambulances rushed to scene.

A DCA official said the nose-wheel of the Boeing 737 was bogged down in soft soil and engineers were finding it difficult to extricate the aircraft because of nightfall.

The shutdown of the country’s second-busiest airport resulted in the diversion, rescheduling and cancellation of dozens of flights, affecting at least 2,000 travellers.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, scheduled to depart on his executive jet at 9.30pm after a short visit, left at 10.45pm. He was here to break fast with Umno members.

Although the DCA has “closed” the airport, it has allowed individual airlines to land or take off at their own risk.

A Universiti Teknologi Mara student who identified herself only as Zilla said the whole plane shook badly before it hit the grass. “I was afraid. I thought we were going to die,” she said.

Raymond Danker, from Penang, who was visiting with his Sabahan wife and three children, said it was their first trip to the state since their marriage 10 years ago. “We were so happy about it and this had to happen,” he said. He said his daughter, Tracie, suffered a sprain to her left wrist while sliding down the emergency chute, and his wife and two sons, aged three and seven, were shaken by the whole episode.

Among the passengers was Laotian deputy director-general of the Cabinet Committee for Planning, Houmpheng Souralay, one of the six senior Laotian officials here for a study tour organised by Yayasan Sabah. “I am thankful that nothing serious happened,” said Souralay.

According to passengers, there were moments of pandemonium on the plane as they pushed and shoved each other towards the emergency exits during the evacuation.

The passengers were then ferried to the VIP terminal and given medical examinations before they were taken to Terminal Two and allowed to collect their luggage at about 7pm.

  12. Dear concerned public & Air Asia Personnels,

If the pictures are doctored, what about the people shown in them?

If the photos come out in the Star newspapers, probably the truth will stand out.

If it is true, it only acts as an alert to travellers. If the incident did not happen, we are all too happy for that.

Please make an effort to verify the truth.

    Thanks.

But there was a case in KK where an actual plane overshot the runway… but nothing seriously. I happen to know a few people with MAS (management) which i was having dinner with that night and they got called up to go to KK since the airport was closed till futher notice. That was about 15 months ago if I remember right.

Not to discredit Airasia but due to this unfortunate event thousands of travellers were stranded and a relative of mine had to reschedule her flight back from KL to KK.Yes it happened in Kota kinabalu international airport about 2 years ago if im not mistaken. It was indeed raining heavily and the photos are genuine. It was widely reported by all local newspaper. Sadly only a few photographs being published by the newspapers as if the authority was trying to cover up the case. Thanks for the photos.

  15. I don’t want to upset you guys but the foto’s are definately real. I’ve been to Malaysia in august 2005 and recently in april 2007 and I have flown with Air Asia a lot. Maybe over 12 flights (all smooth, safe flights). However, the airplane on the picture I’ve seen many times on KLIA (2005) and KLCC (2007). It’s true most of the Air Asia airplanes are colored red, but this painting does exists.
But still, if this is the only serious accident in the existence of Air Asia there is no reason to be scared.

Crew managed to evacuate all the passenger less than 90 seconds and everybody is safe.Nothing to do or blame with MAS.This incident really happened. All the 3 crews now are still working with airasia. This is the only incident happened to airasia since it started operated and i hope it will be the last.Thank you to the crews for acting the situation quick and they did not panic.

  31. I can’t believe you guys think these pictures are fake. First of all, it was a case of an a/c skidding off the runway in heavy precipitation and not a “crash.” The first two “experts” who commented obviously don’t know their planes, claiming Air Asia doesn’t have such a paint scheme. Absolute fools. Are you unaware of the fact that one of Air Asia’s 73’s had comic illustrations on it?

Look at the facts, Gary and Frank. You weren’t at BKI airport, u guys weren’t personal witness to all the chaos and news crew who were present. You guys weren’t affected by the consequential delays in KLIA and diversions into Labuan that night.

So before you run to Air Asia’s defense and pin the blame on MAS (I fly neither, so don’t accuse me for taking any sides), may I suggest that you get your facts straight before you begin using words like “NOT” and “MUST” to underscore your baseless claims.

I am relieved to find that this was an unlucky event happened in 2004 due to bad weather.
I am sure Air asia has been trying its best in maintaining a “zero crash” records as they wouldnt want people to have doubts in flying in their aircraft which will affect their profit. I had doubts in Air asia when it first started as its a budget airline, but to date, i am glad that they are doing quite a good job. I have been using airasia eversince it started and conditions of the plane are better than ever.

    lets talk about fact:

    1) The news was not covered up.. it was reported in major newspaper then..

    2) This was not a crash.. the plane skided due to bad weather..

    3) there were no casualties..

    4) it happened in KK and not KL as per emails

I have been flying with Airasia and will continue to do so.. AIr Asia has the latest and newest fleet amongst those in the industry..

MAS and SIA also used to have plane crash.. that did not stop anyone from flying with those 2 airlines..

Hence, the resurface of the emails now are just out to discredit AirAsia.. by whom? we will never know and will not finger point.. but looks like Air Asia may have pissed some of its competitors…

I am taking Air Asia flight to KK on May 7th.. i took Air Asia flight to Singapore last weekend.. If other airlines cant compete, stop whining… let the consumers decide..

It is just another low cost carrier like others. But one thing for sure, it didn’t turn up well to this aircraft for this particular flight. We should be grateful that no casualties in this incident. A plane belongigng to Air Asia did skid off the runway and as a result it broke the front landing gear. This happened in either Kota Kinabalu or Kuching 2 years back.

  78. Dear viewers, I’ve seen all the planes that belong to Air Asia. However, the problem is, they are all Airbus. Before AirAsia bought these Airbuses, what flights they’re using? I’ve been flying and traveling with AirAsia since 2004 until today (2009), I’ve seen this plane before somewhere in KLIA, and I’ve heard about the news that a plane slipped from the runway while approaching land due to bad weather. I watched the news. But, there’s nothing to be worried of. Air crash could happened everywhere even to the best airlines in the world. I watch Air crash investigation everyday. Nobody wants misfortune, it is just, there will be a day that something or little thing goes wrong that results to accident.

  79. ok… let me explain 1st… actually in aviation world, anything can happen… but, we as technical crew from eng. department will make sure all the aircraft safe to fly… thats why u pay more to fly… the money u pay is for the ppl who sign and declared that the airplane is safe to fly.. then, we dont have to worry to fly… then, there were many minor accident was not covered in media even involved the 5-star airliner, that will bring down the name of company… but, every accident will be investigated thoroughly by the NTSB not by the airliner itself, thats why to get to know who are the one make mistake takes 4-5 years. so, dont worry… in aviation world, theres no bribe and corruption. then, i can tell u that air transport is the safest way to go…
    enjoy ur flight…

  80. This pics and incident is absolutely real, AA plane was slipped from runway. Fortunately nobody die or serious injure. But said tat AA covered up the news is not true, tis news was published on media, juz that AA was not tat popular tat time, u all might b ignore the news…

AA doing quite well recent yrs, actually tis company is applying the strategy as US and other western countries’ company did – low cost carrier. However many suspected tis company cut it’s cost until ignored the plane basic safety requirement, I quite object those ppl who claimed tis.

    • This is a true incident. Not an crash, but the aircraft lalnded and skidded off the runway.

Air Asia did not cover this up. Not a total blackout, but the story diminished. An airplane that skidded off a runway is BIG news, but this got so little publicity. I wonder why…

Their “engineers”/ground staff tried to tow the aircraft that was bogged down using “home brew” methods (Read: Bantai ajeee.) Which actually bent the aircraft from the nose till the foward doors. (Read: ‘Chasis’ sudah koyak) THEN, they called MAS for help as they do not have the skills to move the aircraft, the correct way. Go figure…

Air Asia HAD used Boeing 737s. Now they are using Airbuses.

If your time is up, it’s up.
No matter what safety measurement they improvised, when its time for you to die, you die.

  84. Alright guys, the ultimate truth is that .. IT’S REAL. Yes. I’ll never repeat this again. End of discussion.

And seriously everyone (including myself) doesn’t want to experience this kind of mess, right? Look at those images yourself. Even though that aircraft just overran and skidded past the runway limit due to some heavy downpour, doesn’t mean that it’s safe and to repeat it again and again! In fact, it IS dangerous b’cause anything worst could happen in seconds like a chain reaction that could lead to an explosion in the process. Or maybe it could skid all the way and hit some structures that would cause total fatalities? Please guys, stop making fun and saying statement that’s considered just plain blank! Any form of aircraft accident is of high risk and not too funny.

AirAsia, if you’re reading this, please I sincerely suggest you STRONGLY improve the safety of your flights in the future. You wouldn’t want to be like some pity low-quality, low-cost airlines like in Europe and all, am I right? Sure you want to get profit. BUT PLEASE DO NOT COVER THE TRUTH OF ANY INCIDENT. This isn’t some fascist or communist country! Suppression of information’s ridiculous!

(Just a notice for Malaysians: Well, let us not use any form of harsh words like “son of a B****” or “S****”, even though it looks okay when censored. We’re Malaysians. Take note.)

  90. Whatever all the comments you guys are saying about this picture, let me sum it up. I was the one who did the flight testing of this aircraft after being repaired for the mishaps. I was also the TRI/TRE for the Captains who flew this mishaped aircraft. What ever the finding on this mishaps I don’t really wanna know because the I was the first person the Captain contacted after the mishaps explaining to me on what happen. SO STOP MAKING STUPID ASSUMPTIONS, ACCUSATIONS, BECAUSE YOU GUYS WHO MADE THE NEGATIVE REMARKS ARE NOT THE EXPERTS NOR THE AUTHORITIES!
